Programme overview

The Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga is the oldest, the pioneer and the leading institution in the eastern region of Indonesia that provides legal education. It has a long history as a legal institution of higher education that contributes to educating jurists and developing legal structures in Indonesia. Our faculty guarantees that students will acquire a lot of positive academic activities in their spare time. We provide various student organizations, both academic and non-academic, either national or international which are very helpful for students to develop their skill and ability as a professional jurist.

We offer students the opportunity to develop their professional life through a cooperation program between the faculty and law offices, government institutions, private companies, and industrial sectors. The faculty also accommodates students who want to have international experiences through student exchange and/or international internship. Most of our lecturers and staffs are graduated from reputable universities, either international or national. They graduated from America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The Faculty of Law consistently produces high profile graduates in the region.

The Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga recognizes that legal education is not only limited to academic but also skill in practising law. Therefore, the curriculum comprises both theoretical and practical in order to prepare the student for their future career. Since academic year 2017/2018, the Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga has opened an International Undergraduate Programme in Law. It is a four-year bachelor (S-1) programme under Indonesian law that prepares the participating students for a career in an international or Indonesian legal environment; the students finishing this program will be awarded the title of Sarjana Hukum, which ensures them entry to all legal professions in Indonesia. This programme is specifically designed for:

  • National and foreign students graduated from Senior High School wishing to pursue a Sarjana Hukum (S.H.)/ a Bachelor’s degree in Law.
  • Foreign legal practitioners who are wishing to practice legal activities in Indonesia, ASEAN and Asia regions

Programme Objectives and Desired Outcomes

Graduates of this Programme are expected to be academically proficient and, be able to apply law knowledge superbly while being socially responsible. Courses in this programme are generally designed to achieve the following objectives:

Programme Structure

In order to be granted with the title of Bachelor of Law, students are obliged to earn 144 credits, which can be finished in, at least, 7 semesters. At the end of the learning period, students are obligated to complete thesis assignment, as a result of their research in a certain topic based on their interest, which will be examined in front of examiners appointed by the Dean. Students who have completed their study will be given the title of S.H (Sarjana Hukum) that will be declared during the student inauguration.

International Exposures

Our partnerships with other universities and networks open up global opportunities for students and staff. Collaboration increases the learning process and self-development at Universitas Airlangga and various leading universities in the world.

This programme offers an opportunity for the student to participate in an exchange programme during in a certain period of time (3-6 months) at the university partner. It allows students to take certain courses and apply for credit transfer.

The students may apply and get partial scholarship to take part in this short-term programme.

Double Degree program in “International, European and Indonesian Law” is a four-year program by which in the first year, the student will join the international class program provided by Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga and continue their second and third year in the regular European Law School (ELS)-Program in Maastricht University. Then, the student will have to come back to continue the fourth year in Airlangga University. After successfully finishing the program, both Universitas Airlangga and Maastricht University will issue a diploma to the graduate, that is Sarjana Hukum (S.H.) diploma from Universitas Airlangga for completing the International class program and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) diploma from Maastricht University for completing the ELS-program. The ELS-program prepares the participating students for a career in an international, usually European, legal environment. The students finishing the International Class Program and ELS-program will be awarded with the title Sarjana Hukum (S.H.)  which ensures them entry to all legal professions in Indonesia and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), which ensures them to enter legal professions in the European Union, provided that the additional national entry requirements, which may include additional courses and exams and an additional masters degree, will be met in order to be granted with the title of  S.H and LL.B, students are obliged to earn 160 credits, which comprises  of  80 credits  of the curriculum of International Class  FH Airlangga University and 80 credits of the Curriculum of ELS Maastricht University.

Maastricht University Netherlands Study Program: Faculty of Law

Major: Law


  • 2 Years residence at The Netherlands ( Semester 3-6 at Maastricht University)
  • 2 Years in Indonesia (Semester 1,2, 7 and 8 at Airlangga University)


  • IELTS 6.5
  • Passed the pyschology test
  • Passed Interview test
  • Proof of Financial ability
  • minimum GPA 3.5

Living Cost: 1500 euro/per month

Bachelor Status: S.H and LL.B

Student outbound part-time and full-time is a non-credit program. Student may take outbound part-time (less than 40 hours) and full-time (more than 40 hours) at the university partners. Student may take various activities such as study visit, sit-in class, community service program, etc.

The students may apply and get partial scholarship to take part in this short-term program.
